Using Quotations

Links to Resources and Teaching Ideas

Students who can correctly use quotations when writing narratives score much higher on writing assessments. This skill is extremely difficult to learn for many students. After a lot of thought, I came up with five rules that work for correctly writing quotations in which the source phrase comes at the beginning, midddle or end of the quote. I practiced using these rules with students. Students that needed a '1, 2, 3 Approach' did extremely well following these five rules. You can download the organizer using the link below the photograph. I hope your students pick up this skill as quickly as my studentsdid.
