Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

 

 

As thirteen year old Brian Robeson heads to Canada to spend the summer with his dad, the pilot of the Cessna dies from a heart attack. All alone, Brian must crash land the plane in the wilderness. He must learn to survive with only the hatchet his mother gives him as a parting gift. Brian faces many challenges including hunger, animal encounters, and mother nature.
